We studied the history of F.E. Falz-Fein Biosphere Reserve “Askania-Nova”, which can be divided into several periods. The first period is founding Askania-Nova estate by German Duke F. Anhalt-Kothen (1841). second associated with activities: organization a zoo semi-free animals (1874), establishment dendrological park artificial irrigation (1887), bequest virgin steppe territories (1898). next reserve’s existence took place in conditions revolution, civil war, repressive measures Soviet authorities, and World War II. It was nationalized (1919) renamed many times, including State Steppe (1921), All-Union Research Institute Animal Hybridization Acclimatization (1933), M.F. Ivanov Ukrainian Husbandry Regions (1956), (1983), included UNESCO International Network Reserves (1984). last began Ukraine gaining independence (1991) continues to this day.
